Man summoned for credit card fraud

Antonio Archuleta, about 30, of Rio Rancho, was summoned for theft of credit card Oct. 2 in the 600 block of Lisbon Avenue.

Officers responding to a fraud report were checking the reporting party’s court date for a traffic incident when they noticed there was a civil court date for not paying a Discover credit card. The caller went home and asked his wife and wife’s grandson, Archuleta, about it. Archuleta admitted to opening the credit card without the victim’s consent.

According to the caller, the credit card was opened without his authorization in 2022, but the victim had just discovered it. The credit card was opened in 2022 but are just learning about it now. Archuleta said the victim, who had been helping him buy a vehicle, was present when he applied for the credit card online.

He said he had forgotten about the card and that is why it hadn’t been paid.

The victim decided to pursue criminal charges against Archuleta.

Credit card theft or fraud is a federal offense, and, if convicted, Archuleta could face up to 20 years in prison.
