Man killed walking on I-25 frontage road at night
A pedestrian walking in the Interstate 25 southbound frontage road near Alameda – where street lights were out – was struck and killed by a vehicle Christmas night.
According to an Albuquerque Police Department news release, police received a report that a man was walking in the middle of the frontage road, but before an officer could arrive they got a call from a driver who reported that she’d just struck somebody with her Honda SUV.
The man died from his injuries and the driver was screened on scene. There were no indications of impairment nor did speed appear to be a factor, police said. The driver was not charged with any offenses as it appeared to be a case of “pedestrian error,” exacerbated because “the street lights on the west side of the frontage road were out, making the area very dark,” according to the news release.
