Man gets additional fentanyl possession charges during booking process
Edgar Garcia, 26, of Albuquerque, was charged May 23 with possession of a controlled substance at Sandoval County Detention Center.
Earlier that day, Garcia was arrested for possession of fentanyl in the 1800 block of Pine Road after police responded to a call of a possible domestic incident. There was no probable cause to arrest Garcia for assault, but as police were about to release him, they noticed a bag with two suspected fentanyl pills fall out of Garcia's pocket in the back of the patrol car, and he was taken to the detention center.
Once Garcia was in the booking process of SCDC, five additional pills suspected to be fentanyl were found in his clothing.
The total jail time Garcia will face if convicted will be three years.
