Kevin Murray, 38, of Rio Rancho was arrested again on Feb. 7 for escape from penitentiary, resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance at the Rio Rancho Police Department on Quantum Rd.

A peace officer responded to the call of a fellow officer at the RRPD in reference to a man who escaped custody.

The officer said Murray was remanded or placed in custody by a judge for 90 days. Murray has an open domestic violence case against him. He said he was escorting Murray to a holding cell at the station when Murray fled from him.

Murray reportedly opened the back door to the station, ran into the garage, through the back parking lot and jumped over the fence. Officers in the garage said they saw Murray run past and the officer chasing him. They joined the officer in the chase. He ran towards Laser Rd. Officers caught up to him and re-arrested him.

Later, officers from the detention center called and told RRPD officers that they found a substance suspected to be fentanyl on Murray.

Murray will face an additional 7 and 1/2 years in prison if convicted.
