Man arrested in Northern Meadows shooting; no injuries reported
RIO RANCHO — A young man was arrested as a person of interest in a March 19 shooting in Northern Meadows. There were no injuries reported, but damage was done to a vehicle.
According to an affidavit for arrest warrant and other court records, Oba Reese, 24, of Rio Rancho, was arrested March 20 for the incident. Reese is charged with shooting at a dwelling or occupied building and shooting at or from a motor vehicle on the corner of Truchas Meadows Drive and Thoreau Meadows Drive.
Police responded to the area after a caller reported hearing gunshots and saw bullet holes in their vehicle. They found 20 shell casings. Nine bullets impacted the truck parked in the driveway. Reese was quickly identified as the shooter.
The victims were contacted by Reese prior to the incident. One victim stated Reese has a history with drugs, firearms and violence, and there was an ongoing feud between Reese and one of the victims. Police found Reese had posted a threatening message on social media before the incident, too.
Officers arranged a meeting with Reese and arrested him. During the arrest, he was found to be in possession of a pistol. Officers were able to match the shell casings to that gun.
Reese denied having taken any part in the shooting and said he was holding the gun for a friend. He ultimately asked how much “time” he would do for the crime.
He could face three years or more in prison if he is convicted.
