Man arrested for pulling knife on officers near Latitudes
Javin Sandia, 31, of Jemez Pueblo, was arrested for three counts of aggravated assault upon a peace officer with a deadly weapon at Latitudes on Dec. 23.
A sergeant responded to a call of a man that was intoxicated and had fallen asleep in the bushes who had reportedly stumbled away and could hardly walk. Employees flagged down the sergeant about the man as well.
The sergeant found the man, later identified as Sandia, at the intersection of Grande Boulevard and Plaza Lane. He appeared to be having a hard time walking on his own.
Two officers arrived to assist, and when they were talking with Sandia, he brandished a folding knife at them. The officers told Sandia to put the knife down, but he did not. Sandia then opened the blade and pointed it in the direction of all the officers standing in front of him.
The officers gained control of the knife and Sandia, throwing the knife away from him and cuffing him.
Sandia will face at least 4 1/2 years in prison if he is convicted.
