Man arrested for March 7 drive-by shooting

RIO RANCHO — An Albuquerque man has been charged in a rapid-fire shooting incident where almost 100 casings were spent. Rio Rancho Police Department confirmed he was arrested March 13 without incident.

Jayden Martinez, 23, was summoned March 7 for two counts child abuse, four counts of assault with intent to commit a violent felony (mayhem), three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or occupied building, two counts of shooting at or from a motor vehicle and criminal damage to property at a residence in Corrales Heights.

Rio Rancho Police Department received multiple calls about rapid gun fire around 11:30 p.m. March 7. Neighbors said they saw a white car with a man hanging out the window fire 15-40 rounds into multiple homes, according to an affidavit for arrest warrant.

Officers found 93 spent shell casings of different types. The warrant states there were 23 9 millimeter shells, 22 .223 shells and 48 5.7 by 58 casings.

The victim told police they caught the incident on video. They said they and their family were sleeping when the rounds were fired into their bedroom and their kids’ bedroom.

Officers confirmed the car at the scene was also parked in front of Martinez’s home in Albuquerque. Police were also notified of threatening posts on Martinez’s social media regarding the drive-by shooting.

RRPD collected additional surveillance footage from the area, which confirmed Martinez was the shooter.

Martinez could face more than 20 years in prison if convicted.
