Mario Castaneda, 52, of Santa Fe, was arrested at 1 a.m. July 19 for breaking and entering at Bank of the West on Southern Blvd.

Officers responded to the bank in for a disorderly subject in progress call and found the front window next to the main entrance broken and shattered.

Shortly after arriving, officers saw Castaneda inside the bank at the front counter. Castaneda raised both his hands in the air to surrender to police.

The building was cleared of any other individuals, and officers saw a rock just inside the building where the window had been smashed. They also found damaged computer equipment, and other damaged property had been thrown around the lobby. A damaged ATM in the front of the building was left inoperable.

Castaneda refused to comment and invoked his Miranda rights to remain silent.

If convicted, Castaneda could face three or more years for criminal damage to property and breaking and entering.
