George Mariscal, 54, of Rio Rancho, was arrested April 24 for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 200 block of Buena Vista Court.
The victim told officers responding to a report of an assault that a man pulled out a knife and "aggressively" walked in his direction while walking in his neighborhood.
Police detained Mariscal, who said the victim often walks by the residence and always has something to say. He admitted to owning the knife and flicking it open when the victim was nearby. A witness in the area corroborated this.
Mariscal will serve 1 1/2 years in prison if convicted.
