For a brief moment shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday, it seemed rain might shut down District 2 Councilor Jeremy Lenentine's City Councilor Meet ‘n’ Greet event a little early as sprinkles started to fall at Havasu Park.

However, the weather held up, and residents filled the park as city representatives were ready with information, activities, ice cream and other giveaways.

"We ended up having really nice weather. I just want to give a big thank you to the city for bringing out their tents and information on the city, and a big thank you to all the people that came out," Lenentine said, estimating that about 120 people came out to the park for the event.

In addition to the councilor, Mayor Gregg Hull, Rio Rancho Police, Rio Rancho Fire Rescue, Library Services, Rio Rancho Animal Resource and Water Conservation were on hand to meet with District 2 residents.

The goal of the meet and greets, Hull said, is to be able to update people with what's going on and "kind of how the gears turn" for the city.

"I think tonight went really well. It was a great turnout and great interaction with our citizens," he added. "All in all, it was a great event."

The District 2 marked the sixth and final City Councilor Meet 'n Greet event the city hosted over recent weeks as each district's representative had a chance to mingle with their constituents. As Lenentine's event wrapped up, officials were already thinking of continuing with them next year.

"Tuesday night’s event concluded our City Councilor Meet 'n' Greet summer event series. We are pleased with the turnout of these six events and thank community members for coming out to visit with their elected officials and staff," City Manager Matt Geisel said. "Staff looks forward to working with the mayor and city councilors to plan similar events for 2025."

"I'm ready to do all six of them again next year," Hull said.
