Charles Kauffman, who was arrested for the Corrales murder of Elizabeth Barela on Jan. 31, will go to trial Aug. 1.

However, that trial will only happen on time if all parties involved comply with the schedule and orders.

After his arraignment on Feb. 26, a schedule of events was set. Next steps involve discovery by both the state and the defendant, which can run up until the trial.

Then, either party will be required to make any motions within 90 days after arraignment, except for motions to suppress, which either party can file at least 60 days before the trial.

Then, the parties can meet to attempt an agreement by July 5.

Should Kauffman take a plea, whether it be guilty or not guilty, it will have to be before his final docket call in July.
