Alexander M.M. Uballez, United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico, and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office, announced January 2 that Dylon Scott Sandia, 32, of Jemez Pueblo appeared in federal court on an indictment charging him with assault upon a federal officer involving physical contact. The indictment doesn’t mean Sandia is guilty of the crime and won’t be sentenced unless he is found guilty at his trial.

Sandia will remain in custody while he waits for that trial, scheduled for February 12.

According to the indictment, on May 29, Sandia intentionally assaulted an officer with the Jemez Pueblo Police Department, who, by virtue of a special law enforcement commission, is considered a federal officer, while the officer was engaged in the performance of his official duties.

If convicted, Sandia faces 8 years in prison and 3 years of supervised release after that.

The FBI Albuquerque Field Office investigated this case with the assistance of the Jemez Pueblo Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Meg Tomlinson is prosecuting the case.
