Administration at Rio Rancho Middle School sent an email to parents Tuesday afternoon informing them of an incident that “necessitated an increased presence of the Rio Rancho Police and Rio Rancho Fire Rescue.”
“This afternoon, an incident occurred in our parking lot involving one student and a personal matter unrelated to the school,” according to the email. “This incident did not involve any students or staff members and remained isolated from the routine activities within the school premises. We wish to emphasize that, at no point in time were the students or staff members exposed to any form of danger.”
RRMS officials said despite the “the heightened presence of both law enforcement and fire rescue personnel, appropriate measures were taken to address the situation and maintain the safety and well-being of all individuals involved.”
RRPD Capt. Jacquelynn Reedy, Support Services Division, said the incident involved a student suffering from a mental health crisis.
“RRPD Officers and RRFR rescue personnel were dispatched for a juvenile student who was experiencing a mental health episode,” Reedy said. “The juvenile was transported to an area hospital for medical assistance.”
