G&M Medical Center the renaissance man of health centers
Co-owner Gabe Pacheco says they chose the elephant as the representing animal for the G&M Cares Fund because they are one of the most caring animals.
Whether a patient needs urgent care, primary care, a facial, a weight loss plan, new skin care botanicals or just a vacation, G&M Medical center has them covered.
After announcing its new G&M Cares fund April 29, the medical center detailed its services and why it matters.
"We've always put a certain percentage of our sales into just giving the donations. We figured that it'd be best to actually create a nonprofit organization that used that and combined with grants and donations to actually build on something bigger and offer scholarships. And those because we're able to just give small little school incentives here and there for kids that needed sponsorships and stuff like that, but we wanted to be bigger and give back," co-owner Gabe Pacheco said.
Now, Pacheco says the fund will benefit both aspiring students and the community G&M serves.
"There's a big charge in trying to hire people for medical professionals because there's not that many that are going to school here or they leave the state. I've also always biked over 500 miles a year in September for children's cancer research," he added.
He and his husband Mark Edwards started the center about six years ago to help people with health and wellness.
"G&M started with the primary care center. We noticed that a lot of people did not have insurance, either. So we do have a membership where they can come and just pay us a monthly flat fee," he said.
Pacheco says they do accept all insurances as well.
"We also knew that there was a shortage in veteran help when they're trying to get disability claims, so we teamed up with a lot of VA programs. So we're one of the few providers in New Mexico that actually handle some of the claims for the veterans," he said.
The expansion of services didn't stop there.
"Then we noticed that a lot of people were just suffering from depression. Some of it has to do with self-image and just self-confidence. So that led us into the med spa portion," he said.
He added that G&M tries to take a cost-effective approach to those treatments.
"What's important that we tell everyone is results will not happen overnight and everyone has different needs," he said.
While expectation is that the med spa is only for women, Pacheco says anyone can benefit from it as long as they are 18 or older or have permission from their parent or guardian.
If a physical change is not what people need, G&M started its free vacation planning service to help people get the mental break they need, too.
"Sometimes all we need is a vacation," Pacheco said.
Over all, Pacheco says G&M just wants to help people be their healthiest selves and that is why the new G&M Cares Fund is so important.
"We also want to help keep our health students here and incentivize positions in the health fields," he said.
