David Shoop, 43, of Rio Rancho, was arrested by the Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office in January as a fugitive out of New York.
According to documents filed with the 13th Judicial District Court in Sandoval County, Shoop is accused of criminal sexual penetration of a minor younger than 13 in Onondaga County, New York.
Shoop was extradited to New York and signed an agreement to go back with New York police officers.
The agreement doesn’t prove guilt or innocence but does require he be tried in New York.
Shoop was taken into custody in Onondaga County on Feb. 16. In New York, Shoop is accused of more than the criminal penetration, though. He is accused of third-degree rape, incest and sexual assault of a child.
Jail time for child rape in New York is more than 25 years in prison. Incest can result in 10-25 years in prison as well.
The Onondaga Sheriff’s office has been contacted for records of Shoop’s crimes in New York, and the Observer has not heard back yet.
