A former Target employee has been accused of stealing Xbox’s from the store he used to work at.

Curtis Jerome Vann, about 22, of Rio Rancho, was summoned Nov. 5 for non-residential burglary and larceny at Target on Crestview Drive.

Officers responding to the store on a shoplifting call were told by loss prevention that Vann, a previous employee, entered the store wearing his old uniform. Vann went to the back storage room, where there is a locker containing multiple keys to access locked areas where merchandise is stored, and then accessed a locker containing Microsoft Xbox Ones and removed multiple devices. He then took them out of the store and into his vehicle. He then returned to the store, took more Xbox’s to his car, and then returned to lock the lockers. At this point, he left the property. Surveillance footage captured the incident as well.

In total, he is accused of stealing seven Xbox’s valued at more than $3,600.

Loss prevention said Vann was terminated from Target Oct. 5. Police obtained a phone number for Vann through his employee paperwork and called him. When asked if he knew about the situation, Vann stated he had no idea what police were talking about. He was not in the area at the time, and he also stated he has never worked for Target. Vann then asked how officers were able to get his information. The officers told him they received the information from employment history at Target.

Vann said, “That’s weird; you must have the wrong guy.” Police then asked if Vann could provide his date of birth to confirm they have the correct person for this case. He began to respond before ending the call, and police subsequently issued a summons for Vann.

If convicted, he will face up to three years in prison.
