Fatal abuse case to go to trial
From left to right: Angelita Chacon, Patricia Hurtado and Luz Scott
Angelita Chacon and Patricia Hurtado of Rio Rancho pleaded not guilty to abuse of a client resulting in death during their arraignment hearing.
Both cases will head to trial sometime next year, though the date has not been determined.
They were arrested on May 16 for the abuse of a client which resulted in death of Mary Melero, 38, on Feb. 27. Melero was an intellectually developmentally disabled adult under the care of Chacon and Hurtado.
Chacon and Hurtado are under curfew in their own homes. They are also on GPS orders so they do not attempt to flee Sandoval County or approach any witnesses before the trial.
Luz Scott, who was charged with false imprisonment and conspiracy to commit false imprisonment in the case, has not gone to arraignment, and there is no indication she will be part of the trial.
