Bus information

RRPS would like to stress SAFETY in all transportation situations, regardless of method.

RFID cards will be available in mid-September and will have a replacement fee of $20.

To find the best bus stop for your student, visit the Student Transportation page.

While on the bus:

  • Adhere to all public health orders and school safety measures currently in place

  • Do not talk to the driver unless it is necessary

  • Stay in your assigned seat and face forward - Stand up only after the bus has stopped at the bus stop or at the school

  • No eating or drinking on the bus

  • No yelling or shouting - it distracts the driver. Speak in a low voice

  • Never throw anything on the bus

  • Never stick anything out of the window (arms, legs, head, books, etc.)

  • Keep aisles and exits clear and personal belongings under control (backpacks, musical instruments, etc.)

Students qualify for bus transportation if they live more than one mile away from an elementary school, more than one and a half miles from a middle school, or more than two miles from a high school.

Attendance

Absenteeism is a serious issue in all school districts and is the leading factor in poor student performance, according to sciencedirect.com, a research group studying educational issues.

RRPS defines “chronic absenteeism” as:

  • Missing 10% or more of the school year

  • Missing 19 days during the school year – excused or unexcused

  • Missing two days each month – excused or unexcused

According to RRPS, chronically absent students are less likely to read at grade level by the end of the 3rdgrade and are four times more likely to drop out of high school than their peers.

However, a standard of health is required to make sure your child is well enough to attend school. RRPS reminds parents and guardians, before sending your students to school:

  • Vomiting or diarrhea has not occurred the evening before or morning of school day

  • Student can tolerate a regular diet

  • Fever free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medications

  • Any rash or skin disorder has been properly diagnosed and treatment has begun

  • Cold and cough symptoms are “mild.”

  • Student can participate fully in school learning and activities
