Elderly bicyclist injured after collision with car Nov. 27

A motor vehicle collision on Nov. 27 resulted in an injury to an 82-year-old bicyclist, according to a report filed by Rio Rancho Police.

Officers responded to a collision with injuries involving a vehicle and bicyclst at the intersection of Nagoya Road and Palermo Court.

Officers arrived to a vehicle was sitting in the middle of the road and a cyclist lying on his back on the right shoulder of the road being evaluated by EMS.

The driver said she was driving westbound on Nagoya Road, taking her normal route home. She said she never observed the cyclist until he appeared in the middle of the road in front of her vehicle. She was unable to apply her brakes and struck the cyclist from behind. She said she did not move the vehicle, and, to her knowledge, the bicycle had not been moved.

The cyclist was unable to remember anything about the accident or provide a statement. He complained of shoulder and arm pain and was transported by EMS to Presbyterian Rust Medical center.

Measurements of both the vehicle and bicycle were taken. No skid marks or other tire impressions could be seen on the roadway near the incident. After canvassing the area, no witnesses or cameras could be found that could have recorded the incident.

No arrests were made. Both the driver and the cyclist were sober at the time.
