Danny Dines: The legendary Egg Roll Burrito at Kamikaze Kitchen

Like most young adults in 2022, I wasted hours watching videos on Tiktok.

Fast forward to 2024 … I have a car loan, health insurance, I no longer buy Old Spice 3-in-1s, and I am no longer on the "Tok." In other words, I’ve grown up.

However, during my Tiktok phase, I came across a viral video that featured an egg roll burrito. I was intrigued and hoping that one day I could try it.

Luckily, the creators of that video were set up in the Land of Enchantment.

Kamikaze Kitchen is an Asian-Southwest fusion food truck and are the people who serve the legendary egg roll burrito, which they call the Eggroll-arito.

Every Wednesday, Kamikaze Kitchen is parked at Brew Lab 101 in Rio Rancho.

So, this past Wednesday, I rushed down there to enjoy my favorite foods. I ordered the Eggroll-arito, and I also ordered their chicken sandwich, which they call The Mother Klucker.

The Eggroll-arito has green chile fried rice, fortune cookie fried chicken, your choice of hot sauce, wasabi mayo drizzle, sesame seeds and green onions. The giant egg roll is cut in half so that all the calories fall out. Not true, but I want to live in a world where something like that is true.

The Mother Klucker has hand-breaded chicken breast, topped with house orange sauce, and an Asian coleslaw. The sandwich is drizzled with sriracha mayo and served on a brioche bun. I have had it many times, and it is — by far — my favorite chicken sandwich in the state.

Before you knew it, my order came out, and it looked heavenly.

First, I ate the Eggroll-arito. It was crispy on the outside, soft and hot on the inside, savory and full of flavor. Whenever I have a cheat day or a "treat myself day," I crave the Eggroll-arito. It is my No. 1 comfort food.

Kamikaze Kithchen Mother Klucker and Burqueno Fries

Next, I ate the Mother Klucker. The chicken was crispy, juicy and breaded to perfection. The sandwich had a great combination of heat-and-sweet with the sweetness coming from the slaw.

Now, pair the Mother Klucker with their Burqueno Fries and take your tastebuds on an adventure.

The Burqueno Fries are hand-cut fries, seasoned with house Kamikaze Kitchen seasoning and topped with fiesta-blend shredded cheese, queso blanco and green chile.

I ate it all and had no regrets. Wednesday was already my favorite TV show, and now Wednesdays are my favorite day of the week. Oh, and did you know movie tickets are $5 at Flix Brewhouse every Wednesday? Now, you do.

If you would like to reach out to Kamikaze Kitchen or find the food truck, visit its Instagram account or visit its website, kamikazefoodtruck.com.

Also, from 5-9 p.m. Wednesdays, Kamikaze Kitchen is located outside Brew Lab 101, 3301 Southern Blvd. SE.
