Cuba man sentenced for Ojo Encino murder
CUBA — A Cuba man pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and firearms offenses and was subsequently sentenced to 28 years in federal prison without parole, according to a June 4 release from the United States District of New Mexico Attorney’s office.
Court records state that on July 26, 2022, Navajo Nation Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting at a residence near Ojo Encino. Upon arrival, officers discovered a deceased male with a gunshot wound to his chest and right arm. Witnesses identified Jason Lee Martinez, 52, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, as the shooter, who fled the scene immediately after the incident.
FBI agents interviewed Martinez Aug. 26 that year. He admitted to shooting the unidentified man and subsequently pled guilty to second-degree murder and federal firearms offenses, according to the release.
Upon his release from prison, Martinez will be subject to three years of supervised release.
