Couple wins Doubles at Tenpins & More
RIO RANCHO (Oct. 12,2024) -- It’s been a good month for newlyweds Jolene and Jonathan Sokohl, of Rio Rancho. After getting married earlier this month, they went on to win the Fall Doubles Marathon bowling tournament at Tenpins & More.
The Sokohls went 7-1 in match-play, with Jolene averaging 180.6 and Jonathan averaging 140.0 over eight games. Jolene’s day was highlighted by three games over 200 and Jonathan had three games over 150 (his average coming into the day was 135.)
This news wasn’t so hot for married couple Cesar and Kristen Rui-Jimenez who fell in the second-place match to Kassi Romero and Tom Garcia, 417-380.
The tournament got a thrill when Aaron Griego rolled a 299, one pin shy of a perfect game, but the feat was only enough to get his team to seventh place.
The setup of the tournament gave every team two points for a win. At the end of match-play, the team with the highest point total was crowned the champion. The other teams then played for final places. The Sokohls did not post a final score because they didn’t need to play a final game; they had already won, according to Tenpins & More owner, Steve Mackie.
The tournament paid out $1,950 in prize money.
The next “Marathon” tournaments will take place over Thanksgiving week, Nov. 27 at 5 p.m. and Dec. 1 at 8 a.m.
Entries close Wednesday October 23 in the 25th annual New Mexico Games tournament. Entries are likely to top 280, according to Mackie.
