County police arrest man for hitting man with chain

Clinton Dehart, 41, of San Ysidro, was arrested May 21 for aggravated battery resulting in great bodily harm on US-550.

Sandoval County Deputies responded to the 700 block of State Road 4 just northwest of Bernalillo, where two men got into a fight resulting in one of them striking the other with a metal chain, according to the report. That man then got into a car that was headed toward Bernalillo on US 550. A deputy saw this car pass as they were heading north and activated lights to pull the vehicle over.

Deputies pulled the car over and detained Dehart. He told the deputy that he got into an argument with the other man when he was helping the other man load a truck bed into a trailer. He said the other man accidentally smashed his leg, and that's when Dehart got upset and threw the chain but did not hit the man.

The victim, who had scratches and blood on his neck, said Dehart picked up the chain in an angry manner and swung the chain, striking him in the neck.

If Dehart is convicted he could face three years in prison.
