County hosting annual Thanksgiving food drive
Last year's donations.
BERNALILLO — Sandoval County will host its fourth annual Thanksgiving food drive through Nov. 13, when goods will be distributed.
This year, the county is partnering with the Nacimiento Community Foundation, which operates The Checkerboard Food Pantry in Cuba, New Mexico, where the food will be distributed.
“Since 2021, we have made it a priority to help those who need a little extra help during the holiday season by organizing a food drive for the Thanksgiving Day holiday. This year we will continue the tradition in hopes of exceeding last year’s donations. The collected non-perishable food items provide for Thanksgiving dinner and beyond for hundreds of Sandoval County families,” Sandoval County Treasurer Jennifer A. Taylor said.
Taylor is encouraging residents to gather a few cans or boxes of nonperishable food items while grocery shopping and drop them off at the Treasurer’s Office located in the Sandoval County Administration Building.
“As a community, we can take the stress off a lot of folks who are hoping to provide their families with a traditional Thanksgiving Day meal. Thank you in advance for your participation,” she said.
To donate a frozen turkey, bring it to the Sandoval County Administration building by 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13.
