County holding litter collection day
The Sandoval County Public Works department will hold a litter collection day Oct. 24 at the County Administration Complex.
"Out Litter Collection Day is part of a statewide beautification endeavor that brings awareness and public participation to the litter issue. Keeping Sandoval County clean and beautiful is something we do here every day. This event encourages the public to join us," County Manager Wayne Johnson said.
From 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, residents can drop off litter that they have collected. This is not so people can drop off their personal trash.
According to the requirements from the state, county landfill employees will record the number of participants, the number of bags dropped off and the total weight of bags collected. Also, these bags will be examined to ensure that no medical waste is included.
This Litter Collection Day is for litter, which for this event is defined as items that can fit in a trash bag: paper, plastic and other trash found in parking lots, medians, trails, neighborhood common areas, etc. Large items, appliances or hazardous waste will not be accepted. Information about the Sandoval County Landfill will be available for residents unfamiliar with the large-scale recycling and environmental center.
