RIO RANCHO — A Corrales man was arrested after he allegedly tried to drive into officers at a DWI checkpoint at NM 528 and Corrales Road Aug. 8.

Adib Sadi, 27, was arrested for six counts of aggravated assault upon a peace officer with a deadly weapon, aggravated fleeing law enforcement, DUI, failure to obey traffic control devices, speeding, reckless driving and four counts of evading arrest.

A Subaru sped toward the DWI checkpoint near Rio Arriba Road, going 93 mph in a 50 mph zone, according to the statement of probable cause.

Sadi was identified as the driver after officers pulled him over. He was told to drive to the safe interview lane area. Sadi then allegedly disobeyed orders and continued to accelerate at a high rate of speed through the checkpoint, nearly striking six officers, who all note they felt unsafe.

Several police units proceeded to chase Sadi on NM 528, according to the report, noting that Sadi made U-turns and ran through red lights, missing other drivers, to get away. He ultimately crashed with another vehicle on Sundt Road.

After crashing, Sadi allegedly exited the vehicle and took off running toward NM 528 from Sundt. Despite commands from officers, he kept running, so officers used a stun gun to slow him down, according to the report. It was ineffective at first, and Sadi continued running into lanes of traffic, eventually falling to the ground.

According to the statement, Sadi stated during an interview at the police station he had mental health issues and had bad week and wasn’t getting sleep, taking sleeping pills to help him sleep, it states. He also allegedly told officers that he smoked THC.

Breath tests came back negative, so a blood test was ordered, it states.

Sadi could face more than 15 years if he is convicted. He has been released from custody and is summoned for a first appearance in September.
