Corrales holds winter craft show
CORRALES — The 37th annual juried Winter Craft Show in Corrales was well attended.
Carol Rigmark, chair of the Corrales Historical Society visual arts council, said there were 400 or more people on Dec. 6, day two of the show. The show took over the lawn and interior of the Historic Old San Ysidro Church.
"Yesterday, we had about 300 people, which is good for a Friday. But on Friday, we find a lot of the locals come because they have their favorite artists," Rigmark said.
Most of the 37 artists are from Corrales but Rigmark noted that all are local artists from New Mexico, which has contributed to the increase in attendees.
"It's something that we think of as a gift to the community, and so we don't charge admission. We just want people to come and have a good time, and it is a really festive, good atmosphere all the time," Rigmark said.
She added that when they started serving food as well, more people started to show up.
The event is organized and overseen by Corrales Historical Society volunteers from the Historical Society in conjunction with the Society of Artists. Rigmark began organizing about 10 years ago.
Now, art in the show includes more variety as well. This year the show featured painters, photographers, glass work, wood work, jewelry, pottery, metal work and more.
"People just seem really enthused about it, and we just appreciate the support of the whole community," Rigmark said.
According to Rigmark, 10% of the proceeds from the event went towards the preservation and maintenance of the Old Church.
