The Corrales Ditch Run is fast approaching in Corrales.
The 26th annual Ditch Run, set for Sept. 17, offers 5K, 10K and half-marathon routes as well as a 1K Kids’ Fun Run. All begin at the Corrales Recreation Center area soccer fields at 500 Jones Road. Additionally, a Search & Rescue run will follow the kids’ run to demonstrate how volunteers prepare and transport a litter weighing 180 pounds while navigating different types of terrain. Prizes from local artisans Hanselmann’s Pottery and Cathy Veblan will be awarded.
However, the event is more than a run. Racers and their supporters can enjoy an after party featuring food and drinks from Village Pizza, Hannah & Nates, Ex-Novo Brewery, The Farmstand, Albertson’s, Trader Joe’s and Alma’s Salsa. There will also be a rock-climbing wall, PopPop’s Icee truck, live music by Tom Gutierrez, beer from Ex Novo, hot air balloons, and a Dave Gives Back merchandise tent.
Dave Gives Back Search & Rescue Awareness Foundation, along with the Kiwanis Club of Corrales, sponsors the run. Dave Gives Back raises funds for search and rescue awareness to in memory of Corrales resident Dave Cook, who went missing in 2016 on a Colorado mountain.
SAR organizations who will be present include Albuquerque Mountain Rescue Council, Atalaya Search & Rescue, Cibola Search & Rescue, Sandia Search Dogs, Albuquerque and Corrales Fire Departments (as part of the Heavy Technical Rescue Team), Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office, Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, New Mexico State Police and the Albuquerque Police Department’s Open Space unit.
