Sandoval County Office of Emergency Management reported Saturday that cooler weather is assisting Jemez Corridor conditions.

The Sandoval County Commission issued an emergency/disaster declaration in the Jemez Corridor as a result of severe flooding Thursday. Friday, Sandoval County government officials warned travelers to be careful in the Jemez Valley as a flood warning from the National Weather Service was in effect.

Warm temperatures continued to cause the rapid melting of snowpack, causing increased river flows on Friday, but the weather on Saturday was helpful to the situation. Precipitation has been limited, and cooler temps and wind have reduced snow melt. While the current weather conditions are favorable, all local governments and state and federal agencies remain vigilant and continue to address existing situations requiring immediate remedial efforts.

Currently, these efforts are still ongoing:

The wastewater treatment plant is in contact with environmental agencies regarding this operation.
