Cleveland Storm start swimming

ALBUQUERQUE — The Storm swim season officially kicked off on Saturday with the Peter B. Barney Memorial Relays at Albuquerque Academy. Fourteen teams from across the state traveled to the opening meet, which consisted of eight events: one diving, four individual and three relays.

The Albuquerque Academy girls (243 points) and boys (204) both got first place in their home meet at the Barney Memorial Championship Pool.

Both the Cleveland Storm girls (65) and the Storm boys (57) finished in fifth place, just off the medal stand.

The best team performance was in the girls 400 free relay, where the Storm placed third.

The best individual performance was Ava Schlosser, who finished the 100 back with a time of 1:03.96, just four-tenths of a second off the first-place time (Bella Moskowitz, Abq. Academy, 1:03.56).

Devin Harris had the best time for a Cleveland boy, finishing the 100 breast in eighth place with a time of 1:28.82.

Next, the Storm head to West Mesa Aquatic Center on Nov. 23 for the APS Invite, which will be the opening season meet for the Rio Rancho Rams swim team. Other teams competing at the APS Invite include Albuquerque High, Eldorado, Hope Christian and La Cueva. The meet starts at 8 a.m.
