RIO RANCHO — The Colinas del Norte community collected more than $700 worth of donations for the SAFE House for Women Jan. 17.
The event was organized by Cleveland High School student Jeanna Lehr, who is a DECA member.
“Successfully, we collected $704.90 worth of donations thanks to the contributions from Colinas del Norte Elementary students and staff,” CHS DECA advisor Erin Carrica said.
As an incentive, donuts were awarded to the staff and class who donated the most products. Joining Lehr at CDN was fellow DECA officer Briseis St. John
“The generosity of the community really helped with my project, more importantly the shelter,” Carrica said. “There are many ways to keep that going by supporting local organizations and by participating in future drives.”
DECA stands for Distributive Education Clubs of America, and is a nonprofit organization that prepares students for careers in business and management.
