Child rape case to go to trial in September
Leroy Johnson will go to trial nearly five years after he was accused on multiple charges, including sex crimes against a minor.
Johnson, 36, was accused of six counts of criminal sexual penetration of a minor younger than 13 years old, criminal sexual contact of a minor, two counts of bribing a witness and false imprisonment in 2019.
Each count of child rape occurred to the same victim. Johnson is also accused of intimidating or threatening two witness with the intent to keep them from truthfully reporting the crimes. He also apparently restrained or confined one of the witnesses against their will. The details of the crimes are not available in the court system due to the involvement of a minor.
The trial is scheduled for September.
If the jury finds Johnson is guilty, he could be sentenced to life in prison.
