BREAKING: Hoax call prompts now-lifted RRPS lockout
All Rio Rancho Public Schools were placed on a precautionary and temporary lockout Monday, Feb. 26. An announcement of the lockout’s lift came in shortly after 10 a.m.
A parent notice sent out by the district said the measure was taken due to a potential threat received by the RRPS Safety and Security Department and the Rio Rancho Police Department.
“This means that classes and learning will continue as scheduled, but no one will be allowed to enter or exit any of our campuses until further notice. RRPS Safety and Security as well as the Rio Rancho Police Department are continuing to investigate the threat and have advised we take this measure out of an abundance of caution. We will let you know when the lockout is lifted,” the notice reads.
At 10:12 a.m., RRPD Capt. Jacquelynn Reedy issued a statement that said the lockout was put in place due to a phone call RRPS received, which she said is being investigated as a hoax. She added the schools were placed on the lockout “for precautionary measures.”
