Battle of Badges returns to RR
RIO RANCHO — Police and Fire departments will enter into a friendly competition once again. This is not a violent battle between the city of Rio Rancho’s first responders but a blood drive for the benefit of the community they serve.
Vitalant, a blood donation organization, will be assisting this battle locally from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 9. at Mesa Baptist Church on Golf Course Road.
“This friendly competition between law enforcement and fire personnel is about more than bragging rights — it’s about saving lives,” Rio Rancho Police Department Capt. Jacquelynn Reedy stated in an email. “Every donation has the power to impact someone’s future, and your support helps ensure blood is available for those who need it most. We encourage everyone — residents, families and friends — to roll up their sleeves, donate and cast a vote for your favorite first responder team.”
She asks the average community member be a hero for a day by donating. Naturally, she also wants her team to win.
“Team Police!!!,” she wrote.
Rio Rancho Fire and Rescue did not yet respond to request for comment.
People who donate will be automatically entered for a chance to win one of three $10,000 gift cards in Vitalant’s “Gas Giveaway.”
“Enough to buy gas for a year,” it reads on the event page.
