Basketball regular season wraps

RIO RANCHO — On Feb. 20, the Cleveland Storm and the Rio Rancho Rams faced off one more time in their pink battle armor. The two basketball teams once again hit their court for a “pink out” rivalry game to raise funds for charity.

The match took place at the Cleveland Thunderdome and the Rams ended up on top, winning 66-54. Proceeds from snack and merchandise sales went to support the UNM Children’s Cancer Center.

And with that, the basketball season is wrapped and the postseason is starting up. First, teams hit their district tournaments, Feb. 25-Mar. 1. then, it’s on to the NMAA State Basketball Championship, Mar. 7-15.

State tournament seeding is anybody’s guess. Who knows where the Storm, Rams and possibly Spartans will end up? BUT, we do know where they ended.

The Cleveland boys had the top rankings finish, ending the season at #7, while the Rams girls had the highest girls team ranking of the three squads, ending the season at 11th.
