Rams #22 Kai Bradford lays one in for 2.

ALBUQUERQUE – The APS Metro Tournament is underway. The first two rounds are over, and the final rounds are set.

So far, for the most part, the Rio Rancho teams have fared well. In fact, three of the four teams are moving on to the semifinals.

In the first round, the smallest margin of victory for the four teams was 22 points (Cleveland boys). The largest margin was 51, which the Rio Rancho girls put up over Rio Grande. All the teams rolled to the second round.

The second round was more difficult. The Rams girls squeaked out the narrow 47-43 victory over Abq. High. The Cleveland boys ended up defeating the La Cueva Bears in a game that was closer than the final score would indicate. The Rams boys, however, had no trouble with their opponent and cruised to the 97-56 win over Hope.

The fourth team, the Cleveland Storm girls, had the unfortunate task of going up against the top-ranked Sandia Matadors. They put up a good fight but were ultimately relegated to the consolation rounds after a 72-40 defeat.

There’s been a lot of drama in the Metro Tournament so far and now things are starting to heat up. Here’s a look at the schedule for the coming days and a look back at the action that already happened.
