A Fine February for Fine Arts

Can you believe we are already a month into 2025? It’s pretty wild, but January is over, and February is closing in fast.

It might be a short month, but thanks to Executive Director Kurt Schmidt and the RRPS Fine Arts Department, there’s no shortage of events, from musical to visual, to jump into this month.

When you aren’t out getting gifts for your special Valentine, of course.

February’s highlights include a two-day band boot camp at RRHS, the junior/senior high school art show, and the CNMMEA Honor Choir concert, Feb. 7 at Cleveland High School. The concert is a rescheduled event from Nov. 8, 2024.

The month is bookended with performances by the students at Joe Harris Elementary School. The fourth and fifth graders start the month with a “Recorder Tune Fest”. Then, February rounds out with a percussion and ukelele show from the third graders.

It’s a good month to dive into the fine arts in Rio Rancho. The students are just returning from their All-State performances and are at peak condition in terms of practice and being show-ready.

One thing to make sure to get on your calendars this month is the Advanced Dance Concert at RRHS on Feb. 21. This will be the biggest performance of the year for some of the city’s top dancers.

Neveah Aguilar (junior), Asia Chadwick (sophomore), Hamsini Murali (junior) and Emily Burnell (junior) are all dancers to watch out for going forward. The team is also anchored by Madden Kamplain, Aubri Garcia, Selena Garcia, Lucy Cadman, and Ava Montoya (juniors) who balance out the squad and make for a team comprised of numerous State-Champion Marching Band members.
