The 48th annual Sandoval County Fair is in the books.

This year’s event was a week filled with fun at the county fairgrounds in Cuba that wrapped up on Aug. 4.

All the fan favorites, the parade, rodeo, arts and crafts and tasty fair food, were on the schedule. The county fair also featured the popular parade, circus performers, concerts, 4-H exhibits, a Pow-Wow, dances and a chile cook-off.

This year, three New Mexico bands performed as part of a new feature, “Rockin’ at the Rodeo. Dirty Brown Jug Band, Son Of Hwéeldi and Red Light Cameras took the stage in Cuba.

Circus performance groups put on a show featuring interactive performances, fire acts, juggling, stilt walkers, hula hoops and giant puppets.

The watermelon eating contest and Chile Cook-off also returned this year.

The parade again drew a big crowd on July 27.

All of that fun would not have been possible without the work of the Sandoval County Fair Board.

I can't begin to tell you how hard the folks behind the scenes work to make sure the Fair runs smoothly for all in attendance,” said Justin Garcia, a former Rio Rancho Police officer who is running for Sandoval County Commission in November. “I want to say thank you to the Sandoval County Fair Board for all their hard work. It was an honor to work alongside people who take great pride in their community.”
