A Rio Rancho man who is accused of murdering his son last month is scheduled for a trial next year.
Vincent Buscema Sr. is facing a murder charge after his son died July 8 from injuries he received nearly a month before. A trial for Buscema is now scheduled for Oct. 20, 2025.
A pretrial hearing is set for Oct. 3, 2025, where Buscema will have an opportunity to bring a plea agreement. If he does not, the trial will commence as usual.
In the meantime it is the state's burden to make sure its witnesses are available and prove beyond a doubt that Buscema committed the crime.
The maximum penalty for first-degree murder is life in prison.
