As the 2024 legislative session kicks off today, January 2, for prefiling legislation, some New Mexico House Representatives will attend events in Rio Rancho to give their legislative updates. The legislative session officially begins January 16 and ends on Feb. 15.

Here is the 2024 Legislative Session schedule:

January 2-January 12 Legislation may be prefiled

January 16-Opening day (noon)

January 31-Deadline for introduction

February 15-Session ends (noon)

March 6-Legislation not acted upon by governor is pocket vetoed

May 15-Effective date of legislation not a general appropriation bill or a bill carrying an emergency clause or other specified date

The 2024 election cycle has been underway for months with debates, ads and campaign events across the state and country.

The New Mexico Primary is set for June 4. Candidate filing day is in February. The 2024 General Election day is Nov. 5.

As part of the Rio Rancho Republican Women’s luncheon on January 8, New Mexico House Representative Alan Martinez will share his thoughts on the upcoming session. The luncheon is a no-host lunch at M’tucci’s on Wellspring Ave. that will also have Mayor Gregg Hull as a guest to go over the State of the City. Those who wish to attend have to RSVP to Ann Toliver at 505/349-4151 by noon on Friday, Jan. 5.

Also happening this month is a legislative update from New Mexico House Representative Kathleen Cates at the Wellspring Ave. M’tucci’s on January 13 at 11 a.m. RSVP is not required.

Other house representatives in Sandoval County have not made it clear if they will do a 2024 session update or not.
