The Placitas Community Library will host a presentation by Dr. Rick Hendricks and Malcom Ebright at 2 p.m. April 13 about their book “The Witches of Abiquiu.”

The pair wrote “The Witches of Abiquiu: The Governor, the Priest, the Genizaro Indians and the Devil,” which is based on an 18th-century event in northern New Mexico. According to the release, there was an outbreak of witchcraft between 1756 and 1766 in Abiquiu, New Mexico, almost five decades after the Salem witchcraft trials.

The presentation will cover how this happened in three phases in 1760, 1763 and 1764 in Abiquiu where witchcraft interfered with conversion to Christianity, people’s health and the Spanish inquisition.
