VIDEO and PHOTOS: City puts on 4th of July celebration
Rio Rancho residents lined the street outside Campus Park by City Hall July 4.
Waiting in anticipation of a promised parade, the people and more specifically the numerous children buzzed with excitement. Then, two motorcycle cops led the the parade out and people cheered.
A variety of participants made their way down the strip in cars, patriotic outfits and lots of red, white and blue. Several local candidates also took the opportunity to make their names known, among them Jay Block, Kathleen Cates, Josh Hernandez and Michelle Sandoval. Local leaders also made an appearance including County Commissioners Dave Heil with his Sunday is Funday signs and Josh Jones, who strolled along the strip with a friendly wave. One popular guest in the parade was Captain America.
After the parade ended with a bit of a foam party and a display of dexterity from RRPD motorcycle cops, people made their way to the park for food and music. Then, as it got dark out people waited for the fireworks to start.
The evening went off with a bang at Campus park. Though the fireworks show ended early, the city's skies were filled with the colorful displays.
