What's up this weekend? A look at what's going on around Sandoval Co. Feb. 21-23

1. The New Mexico Athletic Association’s 2025 state wrestling championship will run Friday and Saturday at Rio R ancho Events Center. Weigh-ins begin at 8:30 a.m. Friday with doors opening at 9 a.m. Championship finals are tentatively scheduled for 5-8 p.m. Saturday with team awards from 8-8:30 p.m. For a more detailed schedule and ticket information, visit nmact.org/sports/wrestling/#championship.

2. From 9-11 a.m. Saturday, join the Corrales Bosque Advisory Council for wood removal in the Corrales bosque at Andrews Lane and the levee. This community effort is done as wildfire prevention maintenance.

3. Head over to The BLOCK @ Enchanted Hills Sunday afternoon, where Humble Warrior Taekwondo will be putting on a demonstration at 2 p.m. Then, stick around for Brain Gang Trivia at 5 p.m. for those age 18 and over.

4. The Friends of Coronado and Jemez Historic Sites will be hosting Patricia Brown, professor and archaeologist, with her lecture “Cylinder Jars, Cacao and Chaco Canyon” at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Martha Liebert Public Library in Bernalillo.

Two decades of research in Chaco Canyon has yielded new insights into the use of cylinder jars beyond drinking cacao with the shifting shapes and sizes suggesting different ritual uses and alliances over time.

5. The New Mexico Runners head home Sunday for Rio’s Birthday Bash. Game time is 3:05 p.m. at the Rio Rancho Events Center, and the celebration will include community mascot pals, photos and autographs in addition to the game against the Wichita Wings.
