The National Institute of Flamenco performed a live dance at the Loma Colorado Library on June 21.

Flamenco is a historical Spanish artform that has an “ability to explore the full range of human emotion with an intense, vibrant quality that leaves audiences and students alike, captivated,” according to a press release from Festival Flamenco.

The group of library performers consisted of youth students, with some young soloists featured.

“Some of the shows were very, very, very much influenced by the Roma influence of flamenco,” National Institute of Flamenco founder Eva Encinias said.

Encinias added that others were much more influenced by the Spanish integration of forms of music and dance.

“All of them are just fantastic and really wonderful displays of the power of this incredible music and dance,” Encinias said.

The Rio Rancho performance follows the 36th Festival Flamenco Albuquerque, which took place at four venues, including the University of New Mexico’s Rodey Theater, earlier this month in Albuquerque.
