The second edition of “Stop Him from Killing Them,” a guide to preventing domestic violence, stalking and workplace violence, has recently been released.

Retired Albuquerque Police Commander Paul Szych and Rio Rancho resident wrote the book to share his expertise, having worked more than 1,850 domestic violence, stalking and workplace violence-related “spillover” cases during his 30-plus year career.

Szych launched this book in October, which is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Szych and his detectives were able to “unlock the safety code,” necessary to achieve zero victim fatalities while working cases over an eight-year-span. His book provides the proactive “street-tested” step-by-step path to dramatically reduce lethality and increase victim safety. Szych’s innovations include techniques such as, “disruptive interviews” and “investigative pressure.”

Szych’s ideology focuses on “early mitigation,” which reduces overall lethality potential.

“Proactive intervention must be our goal, if we hope to interrupt the ‘chain of events’ that often result in homicide, especially that which displays an intimate partner related nexus,” Szych said. “Only by first understanding the warning signs can we disrupt the path to violence before it’s too late.”

The new edition of “Stop Him from Killing Them” includes updated strategies, real-life examples and practical advice.
