Christmas is a special time for Lindsey Stirling.
“Christmas supplies this endless well of art to pull from,” she says. “I love doing Christmas tours and there are so many cultures around it. When people know the assignment, I love looking out into the audience and seeing people dressing up. It’s super fun to be leading the charge.”
Stirling is an electronic violinist, dancer and artist who has become one of the 21st century’s most innovative stars.
Her groundbreaking vision has gained her millions of adoring fans worldwide, four Billboard chart-topping albums, and two Billboard Music Awards, including Top Dance/Electronic Album for her third studio release, “Brave Enough.” Her holiday album, “Warmer in Winter,” catapulted to the No. 1 spot on Billboard, Amazon and iTunes Holiday Album charts upon release and lead single, “Carol of the Bells,” made history as the only instrumental song ever to reach the Top 10 at AC Radio.
Stirling will bring her “Snow Waltz Tour,” to the Rio Rancho Events Center at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28.
Some of the tracks on her tour include holiday classics such as, “Sleigh Ride,” “Let It Snow,” “Joy to the World,” “Feliz Navidad,” “O Holy Night,” as well as a medley including “Jingle Bells,” “Deck the Halls,” “Jingle Bell Rock” and the Harry Potter Theme.
Stirling and her team have developed an impressive production complete with aerial acrobatics, beautiful custom-made holiday-themed costumes, and ornate sets that create a magical experience for the audience.
“The Christmas tour does allow us to push the boundaries with humor,” Stirling says. “There’s some camp moments that you can lean into.”
Though, Stirling says there are also plenty of places to have some heartfelt moments.
“I get to share memories of my childhood,” she says. “I try to make space for everyone. I’m not there to share my beliefs. I want to open up the doorway to make the holidays special. I want the audience to think about their holiday traditions and hopefully make some new memories with me at the performance.”
Stirling says the current tour is very similar to last year, though New Mexico will see it for the first time.
“I spent so much time on getting this show perfect,” she says. “We’ve improved it a little to make it flow much easier. The heavy lifting has already been done and we keep moving the tour to the best it can be.”
Stirling says the biggest part of her time is taken to arrange the show.
“I have to think hard about costumes working for certain songs and then I’m also on an aerial rig,” she says. “Building the set is important because it will set the flow of emotions through the show. Oh, and I have to do this all in heels. I’ve never performed in heels before. Rehearsals will be important to get everything just right.”
Stirling hopes that the holiday show will become a tradition for many.
“I enjoy that this is a time that people come together and celebrate whatever traditions they may have,” she says. “Being together is something that is universal. Everyone that comes to the show gets the assignment and we lean into it.”
