PLACITAS — On Sunday, Oct.6, the Placitas Community Library will host an afternoon of poetry featuring New Mexican poets Hilda Raz, Katherine Seluja, and Sarah Kotchian.

• Raz is currently the series editor for poetry at the University of New Mexico Press and poetry editor for Bosque Press.

• Seluja is a poet and a micro fiction writer. Her most recent poetry collection, "Point of Entry," focuses on issues of immigration and ancestry.

• Kotchian is an Albuquerque writer whose creative work arises from the solitude and beauty of walks in the New Mexico mountains. Her most recent book of poetry is "Light of Wings."

The poetry event will begin at 2 p.m., and the poems will coincide with National Mental Illness Awareness Week.

Since 1990, the U.S. has celebrated Mental Illness Awareness Week during the first full week of October after the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) lobbied Congress to create the event.

This year, Mental Illness Awareness Week is Oct. 6-12, and World Mental Health Day is Oct. 10.
