Danny Dines: Weck's
This one is a layup.
Weck’s is THE most popular breakfast spot in Rio Rancho and is one of our state’s household names.
I love Weck’s and have been there plenty of times. I especially love that if you join the Weck’s Birthday Pancake Club you get free pancakes on your birthday.
I know you all love Weck’s, so it was time to give the iconic restaurant their flowers.
I journeyed out to Weck’s after my morning run (yes, I run) and ran into a customer who eats at the Rio Rancho location six days a week. Now, that’s dedication.
“I would do seven, but I can’t eat on Sunday, and still get to church on time,” Dennis Moran said. “It’s worth coming back. That’s why I always come back.”
Some of the many items on the Weck’s menu include their “Fully Belly” Huevos Rancheros, their papas bowls, and their strawberry cheesecake pancakes.
“On the TV show ‘Cheers’ when Norm would walk in, they would all go ‘Norm!’ That’s what I get when I come in the door,” Moran proudly said about his experience at Weck’s.
For those who don’t know, I am classically trained in the breakfast food arts, and one day, will pursue my PHD in the field (once a college offers it). If I could, I would just eat breakfast for all three meals.
I knew what I wanted to order, which was a Farmers Market omelet, a side of biscuits and gravy, and a hot chocolate.
The Farmers Market Omelet comes with sauteed mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, sprouts, diced tomatoes, guacamole, sour cream, and cheddar and jack cheeses.
First came the hot chocolate, which was decorated with whip cream, and Christmas sprinkles. Now, I needed to save my strength for the big meal, so I only took pictures of the hot chocolate, and then I gave it to a family who was behind me. They seemed to enjoy it, and all its chocolate sweetness.
Friendly reminder that it is always better to give than to receive! Easier said than done, especially when you take a look at my monthly credit card statements. However, my mom’s face on Christmas morning will be worth it once she finds out I bought her tickets to visit Spain.
Next, came the Farmer’s Market omelet and the biscuits and gravy. By the way, it came out super-fast! I am always amazed how fast Weck’s gets plates to tables.
The Farmer’s Market omelet was filled with delicious veggies, cooked to perfection, protein-rich, creamy, and very, very satisfying. The dish was also smothered with Weck’s signature green and red chile, and included a side of crispy hash browns, and some toast. The biscuits were fluffy, and the gravy was thick, rich, and creamy.
This was a ton of food, and I nearly finished everything but alas, I could not finish the last piece of diagonal toast.
The food was exceptional as was the service of server Alondra and manager Jesus. Before leaving, I made sure to buy some of their humongous rice krispies for our office. Yeah, they also sell giant rice krispies, and cinnamon rolls.
If you haven’t been to Weck’s yet, please get out from underneath whatever rock you’re under, and give it a try.
As a bonus, here are my top 10 Holiday movies & TV shows and where to stream (no order: Elf (MAX), Let it Snow (Netflix), Hawkeye (Disney Plus), Feast of the Seven Fishes” (Netflix), “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special” (Disney Plus), “Klaus” (Netflix), “Home Alone” (Disney Plus), “Illumination’s The Grinch” (Peacock), “Die Hard” (Disney Plus), and “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” (MAX).
