Corrales is bringing back its monthlong Viva Corrales! celebration April 28.

“Here, the visitor can get a taste of the many events offered during spring, summer and fall, as well as an introduction to the wide variety of organizations that make these things happen,” the online event description states.

According to Corrales MainStreet, which sponsors the event along with the village of Corrales, last year groups held demonstrations, shows, family-friendly activities and exhibits throughout the village. But this year the event will celebrate scheduled activities across four weekends.

Corrales MainStreet Executive Director Angela Gutierrez says this is the second annual celebration of Viva Corrales!.

“It is a signature event as part of our arts and cultural district authorization process,” Gutierrez explained.

The authorization process goes through the state, and Gutierrez says that is the real origin of the celebration. The process assists communities in developing their cultural and artistic resources to create dynamic and economically vibrant districts.

“What we hope to do is celebrate and showcase the unique mix of cultural, artistic and agricultural activities that make Corrales special,” she added.

Gutierrez was excited about the activities that go along with the celebration.

The first weekend will kick off with “Rides, Strides and Giddyup,” giving a number of demonstrations to safely enjoy walking and riding paths, and what to do if people encounter horses, bikes and other pedestrians along the way. The local growers will begin their regular season, along with Sandoval County’s Master Gardeners, who will be selling plant starts for gardening.

All of these activities will take place at the Corrales Rec Center and Top Form Arena alongside the new gym. Local food trucks will be on site throughout the day.

This is a free event with a few ticketed items on the schedule.
