Chilly weather doesn't stop kickoff to food truck season in Rio Rancho
RIO RANCHO — The spring months are here, signaling the beginning of food truck season.
King Meadows Park in Northern Meadows played host to a flurry of food trucks and local vendors March 7.
“We were hoping for better weather, but we are making the most of the situation … It is still the kickoff season, finally!” Sourpuss Lemonade food truck owner Michelle Tucker said. “People should expect to see us in quite a few more places. We have a really big upcoming event, which is the Duke City Foodie Fest.”
Food trucks in attendance included Aces Fry Guy Chicken, Lov’n J’s BBQ, Sourpuss Lemonade, J Cubed, Thatz Good Eden, Kamikaze Kitchen, and Nico’s Street Food.
“I got this blue lemonade from Sourpuss; it’s a little cloudy but this thing is still a lot of fun,” attendee Jullian Pacheco said.
While the overcast, chilly weather wasn’t ideal, plenty of people made it out to support the local vendors.
“I came to hang out with some friends and check out some the food spots,” attendee Kiara Quintanilla said. “I am excited to try Lov’n J’s BBQ; they look really good.”
Through October, food trucks in Northern Meadows are scheduled to be at Zia Park from 4-8 p.m. Tuesdays, 5-8 p.m. Thursdays at Camino De Los Montoyas Park, and 4:30-8:30 p.m. Fridays at King Meadows Park.
“It feels good. Finally we made it out of the toughest part, which for food trucks is always winter,” Kamikaze Kitchen owner Nic Riccardi said. Kamikaze Kitchen is home to the legendary “Eggroll-arito,” which is an eggroll burrito.
